“My Father….”

These two words spoken by Jesus were enough to get the Pharisees twisted out of shape. Never before had anyone claimed God as their Father. Never before had anyone ever claimed to be a Son of God in the real sense of being begotten of God as His very offspring. Let us look at the Scripture plainly…

John 5:17-23

17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had
broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

Underlined is the thought that I wish to address. Jesus simply addresses God as His Father and the Pharisees responded with disdain that He could claim such a thing. They knew what being “a father” to someone implied. All through the Old Testament in the dealings of God, and the lineages of people, this begetting of succeeding generations was of major importance and understood clearly.

Unlike the compromise of our modern day, this statement of “fatherhood” and “sonship” between Jesus and God struck them as a reality which they found impossible to accept. To them it smacked of blasphemy and a sacrilegious assumption. They understood clearly that this would make Jesus EQUAL with God. And Jesus never offered any argument, for it was very true. God surely begets His own kind. (Which we will touch upon more later.)

Nowadays, pretty much everyone and anyone would claim to be a “child of God”. It has become almost a statement of political correctness to speak of everyone as “God’s children”. We hear it all the time. “We are all God’s children”…until the TRUTH of the matter has escaped even the minds of Christians. Christianity can reek of religious and traditional ideas without true Revelation of these spiritual realities.

It is far more accepted to the world to declare that we are a “Christian” than to say we are a son or daughter of God. If we were to be asked of what religion we are and answered with “I am a son (or daughter) of God”, we would be looked at as weird, or asked further of specifically what religion we speak. But truly….the word “religion” and "Christianity" speaks of a set of generalized beliefs and an association with Biblical claims, but it does not necessarily prove a true birthing from God for the individual who claims to be a Christian. That is, being BORN OF GOD, as Jesus was.

Christianity is NOT simply a “religion”, but a RELATIONSHIP by virtue of a BIRTHING by the very Seed of God and His Spirit. This is what Jesus knew and walked in the reality of.

Many religious people, including Christians, do not understand the full scope of being a child of God.

So many denominational and deceptive ideas have robbed them of the full glory, nature and authority of Sonship. To many, we are merely “sinners” saved by grace…no better off really than people of the world, except that we are cleansed from sin by the blood of Jesus by accepting Him as Saviour.

Even the born-again experience is misunderstood and relegated to merely an objective empowerment and renewing of God’s Spirit. But to identify with Jesus as having been in the very bosom of God to begin with…as He was…as a part God’s Word, is a foreign and blasphemous notion to most. To accept that we are indeed “equal with God” as partakers of deity, and sharers of His eternal Life…as His very offspring, is something to be shunned.

Hebrews 1:1,2

1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Indeed, God has spoken to us by a SON.

In times past it was through prophets and men of God anointed by His Spirit. But now God speaks to us of SONSHIP. God has been manifested and demonstrated and shown to us through a SON. God’s very nature and ways and power has been demonstrated to us by one who was actually BORN of God….conceived by His Word and His Spirit. Never before had this been done. The NATURE of God within the very SEED of His Word has been unveiled to us.

We see one in the beginning who was born of the wicked one and Satan’s nature bred into him, in Cain, and Satan’s attributes of jealousy, hatred and murder were expressed through this offspring. In this we must understand that the NATURE of a thing is inherent in the SEED. Whether it is plant, animal, human or divine life…the nature is IN the SEED. Whatever that thing is to be….in colour, fragrance, taste, nature and characteristics…is in the seed.

Many things can be introduced to change, effect and influence the nature of a thing after it is born or sprouted, but ONLY if it can be spliced or cross-bred with other life forces.

Every seed outside of God’s Word is a CORRUPTIBLE seed. It can be changed, corrupted and defiled, but God’s Word cannot be. It is the only IN-corruptible Seed. It is ETERNAL. All other seed is temporal.

God’s Word gives birth to eternal beings. Every seed was to reproduce after it’s own kind. Plants produce plants, animals produce animals, humans produce humans….and God produces what? He produces His own kind. Those whose very natures are of a divine origin and essence. They are eternal.

The problem with many theological concepts is that they are intent on making Jesus a separate divine entity (one of three persons)….making up the eternal Godhead. So, what Jesus is…in their way of thinking…we can never really be. Their concept of the “Godhead” has robbed them of the glories of Sonship and what Jesus came for, and what "being born of God" really means. Little do they know that Jesus was the Pattern Son…from His birth, His life, through to His resurrection and ascension….paving the way for many more sons to be brought unto that same glory.

Hebrews 2:10,11

10 For it became Him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11 For both He (Jesus) that sanctifieth and they (us) who are sanctified are all of one (God) : for which cause He (Jesus) is not ashamed to call them brethren,

Now let’s look closer at the Pharisee’s attitude toward Jesus’ statement of God being His Father. We will see the hypocrisy of their hearts.

In our opening Scripture we see that they are offended at the idea that God is His Father. They are probably thinking that because He is “equal with God” this means He can do as He pleases, and in this great condition and position He answers to no one. They were also already indignant that He ‘had the gall’ to ignore the Sabbath…further cementing their disgust at His sudden “God-hood” status claims.

But look at the hypocrisy of it. Here was these Pharisees who answered to no one…subjecting the hordes to their interpretation of the law for gain and self-approval. Here they were not even answerable to Moses or Abraham; representing or honouring no one in their self-appointed authority.

But now…let’s see what Jesus goes on to say in the face of their accusations and indignation. Lets look at what being a SON of God….and what God being our Father actually entails….

John 5:19-23

Wow! Don’t you agree? Is that a “Wow!” or what?! Need I say more? Can you see it? Can you see what WE ARE as His offspring…and what we are called and enabled to do? Come on now!

It actually says that the Son is to be honoured THE SAME AS the Father is to be honoured. Hello! Do you realize that when we are properly representing God and walking in Sonship…how people honour us is a direct reflection of their attitude to God? Yes it is!

And yes, we are being prepared to JUDGE the world…sitting in His throne with Him…judging nations and the world.

Most people see this honouring of the Son as only for Jesus…because He “is God”. Wrong! Dead wrong! He is a SON of God. We are too. We are the very nature and life of God manifested…as 1 John chapter 1 says of Jesus. We are His body…the fullness of Him that filleth all in all. And it all comes from the SEED of God…His Word.

Our true ancestral lineage, our bloodline, our spiritual DNA…comes from God’s Word.

Religious and denominational minds reject our presumed God-like status, and yet are blind to the responsibility and obedience to God which this demands. Here are these people who are supposedly too humble to accept being “equal to God”, but go about doing things “of themselves” all the time. “Workers of iniquity” Jesus calls them. Workers of self-will. How ironic, what a shame, what hypocrisy! Just like the Pharisees.

Most, if not all, of what Jesus could say…we can say. Let me share some Scriptures to qualify and explain this.

John 5:26,27 & 30

26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Here are a couple of examples. We must begin to identify ourselves in these Scriptures and these statements which Jesus declares about Himself. We are included in these descriptions and characteristics of a Son of God. This relationship between Father and Son. 1 John speaks of “continuing in the Son and in the Father”. This is how we continue in and are a part of that relationship.

Here are a couple more things which we should be able to declare to people in the appropriate situations where it is called for….

John 8:42 & 47

42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

John said the same things of us in 1 John.

5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

1 John 4:6 is a powerful declaration which most do not realize or accept as an identification pertaining to us as children of God. But we are GROWING UP INTO this place of maturity and authority. We are growing up into the position and potential of SONSHIP. And Jesus is our Pattern…our Example.

He also said, “I come from God and I go to God”. If we cannot say that….then we are not one of God’s offspring. If you are born of God’s Seed…then you will begin to recognize who you are. It is like, “it takes one to know one”. And if we are one of His …we will love those who are also begotten of Him….naturally….SUPER-naturally!

1 John 5:1
1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth Him (God) that begat loveth him (a fellow believer) also that is begotten of Him.

So, here we have it, folks! A foundational and major Revelation we need to get a hold of. Remember, (and look it up….meditate it) the Bible doesn’t say “whosoever believes that Jesus is God…is of God”, but it says “whosoever believes that Jesus is the SON OF GOD….is of God”.

Because there is a major Revelation to be received in being a “Son of God”. It is what “religion” and denominationalism has tried to rob us of.

Now, if someone has to ask me if I believe that Jesus is God….then I suggest that they go back and re-read this message over and over, and meditate the Scriptures, because they have totally missed it! It would be like asking if someone’s child is a human. That child was INSIDE their dad…in seed-form…and came forth as his offspring!

This is as simple as I can put it. God must reveal it to you. If you are one of His, with His Seed abiding in you….the Revelation will rise within you and the lights will come on. The Seed will produce of Itself.

Now, NO, we have not yet arrived. We have not fully developed into what we will be as fully transformed children of God…as 1 John also says. “it has not yet appeared what we shall be, BUT….”  That which is inside us….God’s Word…that “God” part of us….the “new creation”…is growing and developing into a full grown Son.

It is like the butterfly coming forth from the cocoon.

We are being transformed from Glory to Glory into the SAME image of Jesus Christ. We will be fully ….the Son of God…a many membered Son. Putting off all that is mortal and corruptible and temporal, and fully assuming our glorified existence!

Praise God...and Amen! God bless.
