First Friday Fasting and Prayer

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender.” Proverbs 22:7

On September 15th, Lehman Brothers, one of the largest and oldest US banking firms filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.   Their creditors saw a whopping $613 billion evaporate before their very eyes!  As a result, they will not be able to spend or invest those funds in the US economy.  The effects are already rippling through our nation!  It was only the week before the US Feds bailed out both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at a price tag of $200 billion and then stepped in with an $85 billion bailout for the insurance company AIG.  The US simply didn’t have enough money to help Lehman Brothers because the US owes over $10 trillion to foreign banks!

Whether the government decides to raise taxes (paralyze the economy), or print more currency (producing hyper-inflation) or borrow more (if permitted) the simple fact of the matter is that the US is broke!  Will our creditors (to whom we are now enslaved – Deut.28:44; Prov. 22:7) propose a solution that would include some form of global government similar to the European Union to help stabilize the world's economy (Rev. 13:16-17)?  Perhaps, or will this current economic earthquake lead to repentance, restoration, revival and Spiritual Awakening? Will we pray?   There will be no revival or Spiritual Awakening without prayer and repentance!

As Lehman Brothers fell, there was prayer on Wall Street.  People were sending prayers through text messages!  There were special prayer conference calls, and prayer meetings scheduled at Merrill Lynch, Goldman, Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Citigroup to name a few!   Pastors were praying in the streets!     In September, 150 years earlier there was prayer in New York City too!   There was great agitation over the issue of slavery with a civil war seemingly unavoidable. Christians were being mocked and there was a great financial panic in October of 1857, with failed banks, bankrupted railroads and other financial disasters!  America was in trouble like today, yet 50,000 people met every day for prayer!  Over a million people came to faith in Christ in America and another million came to Christ overseas!  This was a great missionary prayer revival and the beginning of America’s 3rd Great Awakening!

Yes, the nation entered a horrible civil war just a few years later, but can you imagine how many men and women were ushered into heaven as a direct result of that Great Awakening?

The Bible teaches that in the end which is soon coming, there will be an evil empire that combines several governments (Rev. 13:1).  This new government will gain power of the world economic system (Rev. 13:7), allowing no one to buy or sell without the mark of the beast.  Those who refuse the mark will face death.  How many will enter into glory at this time depends on our prayers (Acts 26:18).  May we prove faithful today!

What about you?  Will you help host a prayer meeting?  Will you pray for the lost?   Will you help fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20)? It is only when we humble ourselves before God, repent from our sins and return to Him that He hears us and promises to heal our land (2 Chron. 7:14)!  Prayer makes the difference!

Join us in praying for the church in America during this time of crisis to step forward and repent in order to provide the solution to this global problem:
