Deep Water Faith
(or Drop Everything and Follow Jesus)
By Pastor Howard Sands
Edith, a mother of 8 came home from her neighbours house,
things seemed a little too quiet.
As she peered through the door she saw her children huddled together, as she drew closer, to her surprise, in the middle of the circle were 5 baby skunks.
Edith screamed 'Quick children run"
Each grabbed a skunk and ran.
From Charles Swindoll, The Finishing Touch,
Word Publishing 1994, P 192 - 195
Some days are like that aren't they?
Even when we try to solve them, pressures multiply.
Jesus the son of God was not immune from pressures when he was amongst us. He was regularly in the synagogue teaching,
answering questions, facing their criticisms, dodging the Pharisees and Sadducees bullets, casting out demons, healing the sick, confronting the forces of evil.
In the midst of all this at one point:-
1One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, 2he saw at the water's edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch."
5Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
8When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" 9For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." 11So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
His emotions spent, his body weary, but he pressed on and taught the people.
He told Simon Peter, “Put out into the deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.”
Simon replied, “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”
No one can criticise Peter for being reluctant, he'd been fishing all night but caught nothing, but he wisely surrendered
And when they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets began to break So they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
When the master of heaven and earth, sea and sky calls the shots amazing things happen - which explains Peter’s explosive reaction
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!"
Earlier Peter calls Jesus "Master" after the miracle of the fish he calls Him "Lord".
Gripped with the realisation that he was in the boat with the Most High God.
He sounds like Isaiah who said
Isa 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
Jesus said to Him Do not fear from now on you will be catching men
There the two of them stood, thigh deep in cold, wet, clammy, slimy fish and Jesus used the opportunity to give them his real message of deep water faith.
"Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men."
So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
Amazing isn't it, Once they heard his invitation they literally dropped everything
their familiar surroundings
their own goals
nets, boats, business, future dreams - everything
Perhaps its time for us to take a mental boat trip out with Jesus into the deeper waters of faith and when Jesus says, "follow me" - DO IT
Unlike Edith's children, we need to drop everything and run
Why should we be willing to drop everything and follow Jesus - and what happens when we do?
1 Jesus chooses not to minister to others alone.
He could have rowed the boat himself but he didn't
He could have let down the nets himself but he didn't
He certainly could have pulled up the nets busting full of fish but he had them do it
He specifically stated "From now on YOU WILL BE CATCHING MEN"
2 Jesus uses the familiar to do the supernatural
He came to their place, their work, used their skills to work a miracle
He always uses people. He will use you, if you are willing to let Him.
3 Jesus moves us from the safety of the seen to the risk of the unseen
He led them out into deep water (They couldn't touch the bottom)
Nothing spectacular happens in the shallows
4 Jesus proves the potential by breaking our nets and filling boats
When God’s hand is on a situation nets break,
deck planks groan,
the boat almost sinks
Its Gods way of putting his potential in you, on display
5 Jesus conceals his surprise until we follow his leading
There was no halo around the boat;
no tingle at the touch;
no special shimmer on the water that day;
angelic voices didn't thunder from the sky;
Nothing happened until after they dropped the nets. Until they were simply obedient to his word.
6 Jesus reveals his objective to those who release their security
Only after they have been obedient does he tell them what they will be involved in "Catching men." They jumped at the chance.
Will you ?
Push out into the deep
Let down your nets (Obey his word-even though you may have done it 1000 times before)
Work hard to bring in the catch
Then leave it all to Follow Him and be a fisher of men

PAKISTAN RECEIVES THE WORD AND HEALING FOLLOWS
We started our work to meet those who were already anxious to listen to God's word. We divided into three groups and went out to three major places and distributed 137 Urdu Bibles among the seekers. During this visit we found out that 8 of those people are already came to accept Jesus Christ in past but they have no Bible even no body visits them, so they forgot how to worship God. They became very much happy to see us in their area and they especially came to us and requested to pray for them. We got them gathered together in one place and we arranged a worship program and we all had dinner time together in having very good fellowship. After dinner we again all gathered and started to discuss, so we taught them from God's word. We spent some time in prayers of praise & thanksgiving and during this time two of them were healed by the touché of Holy Spirit and they started to talk in tongues. So that was very blessed time for all to enjoy learning and praising God.
Next morning, we went to local Church named St. Peter Church where I (Bother Samuel) delivered message to the congregation. After listening to God's word 20 people came to confess themselves and they asked to pray for them. It was prayed for 10 people who had problems of different diseases. One of them had breast tumor and we prayed for her all together in unity and after about while that told Pastor's wife that she is healed. Praise God! for this great miracle.

GOD ADDS MORE STUDENTS TO HIS CHURCH IN VOLGOGRAD, RUSSIA
The ministry has experienced some growth. Now we have around 50+ students attending our weekly church services, and not only attending, but actively participating! Hallelujah! I continue to pray that there will be always hunger for the things of God in our hearts. We see here that even Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu students desire to join our services.
God really opens new doors for us. The Wassup! magazine that we publish every month, has a big part in this success! In October 2006 by the grace of God we managed to print out 1600 copies of Wassup! magazine (Issue#5). International students from different cities of Russia send us their feedbacks, which is really encouraging to all of us at Jesus Embassy. We believe that our Lord Jesus will continue to do even greater things through
this paper ministry and He will enable us to print out and send to other cities even more copies than we can afford to print today!
Dear Rev Howard,
I hope you are ok, thanks for the teachings you send me surely they have been of great help to my ministry.
Pr Charles Mpagi, Uganda

BIBLE STUDIES IN THE PUB
The Reverend Perry Polnaszek of FellowshipChurch will execute an innovative concept next month when he begins a nine-week Bible study at taverns in Eau Claire, and Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
"We live in Wisconsin, where drinking is a state pastime," said church member Caleb Gerdes Gerdes.
Although the church has reportedly been criticized for mixing booze and the Bible, Polnaszek -- whose father owned a bowling alley in Thorp, Wis. and knows how entrenched alcohol is in Wisconsin culture -- says they're trying to do things "the right way and for the right reasons."
"This is our culture," he said. "Rather than trying to deny that this is where people are, we want to reach out to them," adding that he'll bring the gospel to drinkers even if it's in a bar.
According to the AP report, participants are welcome to drink, in moderation, and nonalcoholic beer will be available, too.
"Anybody can drink anything they want," Polnaszek said. "We just don't want any bingeing or any fights."
Reportedly, the discussion series called "Theology on Tap" even has a sponsorship with Guinness, who is promoting its nonalcoholic beer Kaliber.
THOUSANDS ACCEPT CHRIST
"Feeding 5,000" event
AG Staff/TN (Sep 6, 2006)
Faith Tabernacle in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, drew thousands to its fourth annual "Feeding 5,000 and more" event on Saturday, August 19, 2006.
According to Senior Pastor Terry Bates, the church chose the theme "Feeding 5,000 and more" for its yearly outreach because the account in the New Testament is one of Jesus' most well known miracles. "We wanted to find a way to capture the attention and the imagination of our city with something big and memorable," he explains.
"We chose compassion evangelism as a primary tool to send a message to our community that we care about them because Jesus cares about them," Bates adds. "Our goal is to impact the lives of 5,000 people through compassion."
On the day of the event, the church reportedly fed 4,000 people on site and sent the remaining food to local shelters and rescue missions. They also gave away 3,000 backpacks filled with over 80,000 school supplies to the first 3,000 students through the doors.
STREET PASTORS IN THE UK
Street Pastors Recruited and Commissioned to Offer Advice to Youth in Pubs and Clubs
Ministers move beyond the church walls...
BBC/TN (Oct 28th, 2006)
The BBC reports that street pastors have been recruited, and will soon be commissioned, to "offer advice" to young people in one district's pubs, clubs and on the resort's streets.
According to the report, teams of four volunteer pastors, who are part of a nationwide inter-denominational church, respond to problems such as binge drinking and antisocial behavior, each team working one night a month.
CHURCH ON WHEELS
UK Ministers Convert a Van into "Church on Wheels" to TakeChurch to the People
"...don't come to us we're coming to you."
BBC Staff/TN (Nov 3rd, 2006)
Some ministers in the UK have turned a converted van into a church on wheels. Dubbed the "God Pod," Organizers are quoted as saying the pod aims to offer help and advice while spreading the word of God to people who would not normally go to church, and they hope it will eventually be able to travel across the county.
According to the BBC report, visitors can be shown Christian films and literature over a cup of tea.
"The God Pod is about bringing the church into the heart of the community, making people aware that they can find spiritual help, social help and that we care - don't come to us we're coming to you," said Dennis Turner from the Cherry Willingham Methodist Church.
Reaching the Unreached - China on Fire
WOMEN OF FIRE
By J. Lee Grady
Sister Peng pays a high price to be a Christian in China. She has been arrested many times, and she will go to jail again if the police catch her preaching the gospel. Forced to live as a fugitive, she must sneak into her home at night to visit her husband and young daughter.
The first time Peng was taken into custody, just after the Tiananmen Square massacre in Beijing in 1989, she was delivering a fresh shipment of Chinese Bibles to some unregistered pastors. She was thrown into a dirty detention cell and tortured with an electric cattle prod in an effort to force a confession of her "crimes." She shivered in that cell for months. Guards offered no coats, blankets or feminine hygiene supplies.
"For eight months I had no contact with anyone. I just ate soup in my cell," Peng told me when I visited China three years ago. "It is really God's mercy that he fed me and kept me warm."
When Peng was transferred to a women's prison, she spent two lonely years there. But during that time she led 32 female inmates to Christ. Upon her release, she immediately resumed her itinerant preaching ministry.
Now 43, Peng doesn't let her thin frame or her femininity stop her from taking on dangerous assignments. And she is not alone. She is one of the many female heroes of China's underground church movement.
When I visited a group of unregistered church leaders in a city near Hong Kong in 2001, I discovered that between one-half to two-thirds of all church planters in China today are women, most between the ages of 18 and 24. These women, along with their male colleagues, lead an estimated 25,000 people to Christ daily.
One evening after a meeting with these humble Chinese leaders, I returned to my hotel room and discovered two of the female leaders waiting at my door with a translator. "They would like you to pray for them," the translator said. "Are you pastors or evangelists?" I asked, hoping to better understand their needs. They smiled and replied, "Yes." "How many churches do you oversee?" I inquired. The translator pointed to the woman on the left. "This one oversees 2,000 churches, and this other one oversees 5,000 churches," he said.
Sister Peng is a woman on assignment, and her passion is not waning. On the last day of my visit, she shared with me her plans to take teams of Chinese Christians into the Muslim republics on the western border of China - a place where she expects to encounter harsher persecution than anything she experienced under the communist police.
Her ultimate goal, she told me, is to see the Chinese church "march from China to Jerusalem until all the Muslim world hears the gospel" Peng added, "I used to think that missionaries going from China would not happen until after I die. But God has shown me that it will soon be time. I want to raise up 700 missionaries. God is going to raise up apostolic teams throughout China. It's our time to go to the world."
The word of God will produce the same fruit today as it did 2000 years ago.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING
MASS BAPTISMS IN USA
Up to 4000 people a night coming to get baptised
The AP reports that since the start of the Cane River Tent Revival on July 31, thousands of people have been coming to get baptized in the river. Originally, leaders thought the meetings would end in two weeks, but people -- sometimes 4,000 a night, according to the report -- kept coming.
"I've had opportunities in the past to be involved in area-wide meetings," said the Rev. Ralph Sexton Jr. "But this exceeds all expectations. This is my first cornfield revival and I hope it won't be my last."
One attendant, Dee-Dee Carver, said she has been dealing with a rebellious son and her own shortcomings, and came to strengthen her Christian faith. "I've been coming every night I can," she said. "I come here and feel that sweet, sweet Spirit. I think it's God's way of saying, 'I still love you.'"
1000 ACCEPT THE LORD AT HIMALAYAN HEALING FESTIVAL
"My daughter has not been able to walk since she was born. I am so happy to see her walking with such a bright smile. Jesus healed my daughter. Now I believe in Jesus Christ."
Johnny Kim/AH (Nov 17th, 2006)
Some 5,000 people in Himalayan region who came to hear the life-giving message of God Almighty, experienced the powerful works of the Holy Spirit and 1,000 people came to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior during a unique "Healing Festival with handkerchief" led by a Korean mission team in Siliguri, West Bengal, India, on Tuesday, November 14.
Through hearing the testimonies of the first night, even many unbelievers including Hindus, and Sikhs in their local clothing, attended the second night of the festival.
Rev. Sam H. Sereng, the Founder & Director of Every Home for Christ Ministries, said in an interview with MANMIN TV, "People came from different parts of the region, even from neighboring countries like Nepal and Bhutan. More than 60% of the participants were unbelievers. We can recognize them easily by their outward appearance. Praise the Lord for this precious opportunity to guide them to salvation through Jesus Christ!"
A 7-year-old Hindu girl who had not been able to walk since her birth, [was healed and was able to] walk for the first time in her life. Her mother, a Hindu married woman, testified, "My daughter has not been able to walk since she was born. I am so happy to see her walking with such a bright smile. Jesus healed my daughter. Now I believe in Jesus Christ."
There were many [other] healings. The blind received their sight, the deaf came to hear, the mute came to speak, and the paralytics came to walk and jump. Various other diseases like diabetes, heart problems, asthma, and arthritis were healed. We even saw evil spirits leave people when they repented and received the prayer by faith in the name of Christ Jesus.
A medical team was on hand to check and diagnose people during the two nights of the festival and then further check them after they had claimed to be healed.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
EVER WONDER where we are headed...
..why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?
..why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?
..why you don't ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?
..why "abbreviated" is such a long word?
..why doctors call what they do "practice"?
..why you have to click on "Start" to stop Windows 98?
..why lemon juice is made with artificial flavor, while dishwashing liquid is made with real lemons?
..why the man who invests all your money is called a broker?
..why there isn't mouse-flavored cat food?
..who tastes dog food when it has a "new & improved" flavor?
..why Noah didn't swat those two mosquitoes?
..why they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
..why they don't make the whole plane out of the material used for the indestructible black box ?
..why sheep don't shrink when it rains?
..why they are called apartments when they are all stuck together?
..if con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?
..why they call the airport "the terminal" if flying is so safe?
