“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” Psalms 32:8
This verse is in the first person so it is actually, God speaking directly to you. When we read the word of God, we must receive is as God speaking directly to us. If we read it as a book to formulate a doctrinal position or to find verses which support something we believe, we miss this important reality: it IS God speaking to us. There is nothing wrong with doctrine and we need doctrine, but when we use it as some text book instead of reading a love letter, God remains detached and aloof to us. God has called us into relationship and the most important part of any relationship is communication. When the other person is speaking, do we accept what they say. In this beautiful psalm God has chosen to speak directly to us. He is saying “ I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” Take a minute and speak this out loud and believe God is speaking to you. You may find it causes your heart to respond in a very positive way. The more that we do this the more real God becomes to us. I have found it is a very powerful way to connect with God's heart.
I pray we believe God speaks to us through His word.
