Blessings Beloved Prayer Leader,

The final arguments for the Proposition 8 Marriage Amendment vote and passage to be upheld will be today, Wednesday June 16th at The Federal Building 450 Golden Gate Avenue 17th Floor Court 6. in San Francisco, California.

Why is this so important?  For a variety of reasons not the least of which is that the overturning of the Marriage Amendment in California by a Federal Court will automatically overturn DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act on a Federal Level that declares marriage between a man and a woman.

God tells us in Genesis that His image is expressed through male and female and in Epheshians it tells us that marriage is to be a testimony of the relationship between Christ and the Church.  THIS IS MORE THAN JUST A COURT CASE THIS IS A SPIRITUAL BATTLE FOR THE SOUL OF OUR NATION!

This is not a battle against flesh and blood as the word says and cannot be won with carnal weapons.  It is a spiritual battle that must be won in prayer.

Please pray and fast through the day of the trial. Let us humble ourselves under the mighty hand of our God and repent and renounce all compromise, complacency and apathy within the church that has allowed us to come to this place at all.  Let us cry out to God for mercy, for Him to take what the enemy has meant for evil and turn it to our good and His Glory!

Always seek God for His Direction in prayer and then as lead agree on these Prayer Points:
  • For God's wisdom, protection and direction for Andy Pugno and his team
  • Pray for all veils of deception to be loosed off of the eyes of the Judge and the prosecuting attorneys
  • That God's presence, life, love, wisdom and truth prevail in that courtroom.
  • That every rebellious, defiant, angry, violent spirit be bound and forbidden from manifesting.
  • Pray God's tangible presence of love be all that people experience when they encounter Christians
  • Pray for a pre-triggering of every trap and snare of the enemy on the enemy's head (Ps 141:9-10)
  • Pray for God's word to be fulfilled for the destruction of the works of the enemy and the open show of the triumph of God.
  • For the souls held in captivity to the homosexual lifestyle to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, that their eyes be enlightened to the truth of his love and saving power
  • Pray through the attached Questions for Closing Arguments submitted by Judge Vaughn Walker to the attorneys
  • Pray protection for all of the intercessors and their families on the ground at the Courthouse

The Impact on Children

Dear Friends,

A bit of breaking news: Judge Vaughn Walker issued an 11-page order detailing 39 legal issues parties in the Perry v Schwarzenegger case are to address in closing arguments on June 16th.  Judge Walker also clarified that his questions may extend beyond this list.  Click here to read the many complex legal issues we are preparing for response in less than one week! (As some people have been having trouble accessing this document, it is attached to this email as well.)

As promised, this email is another in a series that updates you on our legal positioning in the Perry v Schwarzenegger trial to preserve traditional marriage.

Perhaps the most critical function of traditional marriage is the impact the institution has on the creation and development of children. Simple biology proves that only marriage between a man and woman can result in the creation of a child.  It just can't happen between two men or two women.  Further, experts around the globe agree that the ideal family structure for a child is a family headed by two biological parents in a low-conflict marriage.

The contention that there is no discernable difference between the cognitive, emotional and social environments of opposite-sex married couples and homosexual couples just isn't borne out by social science.  In fact, the potential impact of alternative "marriage" on children is at the core of why Prop 8 was placed on the ballot and why more than seven million Californians supported it.

Like everything else in life, there are exceptions to any projected outcome and, of course, children adopted into traditional families can fare quite well! But social science research indicates that, on balance, children who grow up in a family configuration outside their biological parents are at greater risk for a host of negative challenges, including health problems, early mortality, suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, criminal behavior, and incarceration.

If that's not enough, children who do not live with their married, biological parents are at heightened risk for intergenerational poverty and early sexual activity and pregnancy. In addition, they are far more likely to face problems in school and the labor force as they enter adulthood.

As we noted in our Findings of Facts document submitted to the court, "many of the negative outcomes associated with not being raised by married, biological parents become more pronounced (or at least more measurable) in adolescence or early adulthood."  In other words, if the challenges that can be brought about by living outside a traditionally married family aren't immediately revealed, it is quite likely, according to social science, that they will become apparent later in life.  That is not the kind of blossoming any parent and any society would choose for a child.

These are impacts that have been carefully studied and the results are research-based.  On the other hand, the rarity and novelty of same-sex parenting means social scientists are currently unable to draw meaningful conclusions about its impact on children.  For example, a study released this month in the journal Pediatrics makes claims of children raised by lesbian couples being more psychologically well-adjusted than other children.  This newly released study is the first of its kind, consisted of 78 recruited lesbian couples, and parents and children were interviewed and surveyed with questionnaires.  In contrast, scientific validity and reliability are established through sample groups of statistically significant size, groups selected as randomly as possible, multiple studies that replicate similar results, and objective measurement tools.

Yet we are being asked to put aside what is objectively known,  for a "cross your fingers and hope for the best" approach because it suits the adults.

Raising children today is infinitely more difficult than in past generations, to be sure.  Therefore, to willfully place the next generation of children under additional hurdles simply because a very small population wants to live out the homosexual marriage experiment lands somewhere between irresponsible and abusive.

As always, we thank you for your continued financial support during the continuation of our legal battle to retain marriage between a man and a woman.

Sincerely,
Ron Prentice, Volunteer Chairman

A Question of Law

Dear Friends,

In less than 48 hours, our exceptional legal team will deliver closing arguments in the Perry v. Schwarzeneggertrial to uphold the constitutional protection of marriage between a man and a woman.  The process to this point has been challenging, but we have persevered with a singular focus on the law, while our opponents and the media have done their level best to make this a battle of emotions.

Since this lawsuit was filed in May 2009, our efforts over the past year have been dedicated to proving that Proposition 8 was constitutionally enacted based on the rule of law.  Our opponents' arguments have been based almost entirely upon emotional appeals, and it is our fervent hope that Judge Walker renders a decision not influenced by emotion but rather in adherence to legal precedent.

At this point, we also want to thank a very important partner in our efforts. Schubert Flint Public Affairs deftly guided and counseled us through the process of a successful campaign to pass Proposition 8.  While no longer a formal part of our communications team, we owe them a great debt of gratitude for their outstanding and insightful contributions.

Please keep all of our attorneys and those working on your behalf in prayer as we enter the final hours of this trial court phase.  We have made clear in the courtroom and in our submitted briefs that marriage is not an institution whereby society arbitrarily promotes heterosexuality at the expense of homosexuality and other sexual orientations; rather, it is an institution that promotes the unique support and security for children that can be provided only by opposite-sex relationships.

We recognize that the plaintiffs' attorneys are skillfully utilizing the media and this trial to communicate an emotional argument for the re-definition of marriage. However, the issues before the Court are, at the end of the day, questions of law.

Let us move forward, then, trusting that our collective prayers will be answered and that the court's decision will be justly delivered in support of the historic and sacred institution of marriage.

Blessings,

Ron Prentice, Volunteer Chairman
