Why God Wants You To Change

Intro

Soren Kierkegaard was a Danish Theologian who lived from 1813 to 1855. He related a homely parable about a flock of geese that milled around in a filthy barnyard imprisoned by a high wooden fence.

One day a preaching goose came, stood on old crate & admonished the geese for being content. He recounted exploits of their fathers who spread wings and flew trackless wastes of sky. He spoke of the goodness of their Creator who had given geese the urge to migrate and wings to fly.

This pleased the geese, they marvelled at his eloquent words,

nodded their heads,

applauded his preaching

just then Mrs Farmer came in with some good corn so they waddled off;

after having their fill they gaggled for years about the greatness of the preaching goose;

they never did fly

Mk 7.1/13 Jesus said the Pharisees made their tradition nullify the Word of God.

Rom 12.2 Living Bible

Don't copy the behaviour and customs off this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how His ways will really satisfy you.

CHANGE: Oxford Dictionary-      making or becoming different, different from previous state, substitution of one for another

EG.       New clothes - feel special, obvious, noticed and proud, sense of worthiness

However they may be a little stiff, not familiar, and the wearer may have some small discomfort.

old clothes  - comfortable, blend in, nothing special, not noticed, you are a nobody.

3 Reasons why God Wants You To Change

1/ If we don't have change the past will be the present and the future

boring, lifeless, useless, dead

Abraham would still be in Ur of the Chaldees (Iraq)

Moses would have been the next Pharaoh of Egypt instead of Israel's deliverer

David would have continued as his brothers lunch boy instead of slaying Goliath

Esther may have lost her life along with thousands of Hebrews, Mordecai said Who knows if you haven't come to the kingdom for such a time as this.

Nehemiah would still be serving wine to King Artaxerxes in Susa instead of motivating a bunch of no hoper Hebrews to build a wall around Jerusalem

Peter & John would still be out fishing for lunch instead of changing the world as Jesus’ apostles.

Paul would still be a religious narrow minded, threatening, murdering bully instead of converting the gentiles to Jesus.

EG. Russian Tsar:

Years ago in Russia, Tsar (the former kings of Russia were called Tsar) came upon a lonely sentry standing to attention in a lonely part of the palace garden.

“What are you guarding” asked the Tsar

“I don't know - captain ordered me to this post." sentry replied

Tsar asked captain - Written regulations specify a guard to that place

Tsar ordered a search of records to find out why

Archives yielded the reason

Years before Catherine the Great had planted a rose bush in that corner. she ordered a sentry to protect it for that evening.

100 years later sentries were still guarding the now barren spot.

Are we still guarding our precious traditions

old songs - hymns

revelation of 30 yrs ago, or 20  or 10 or 2

If we don't have change we'll die in the past

2/ God is a God of the New thing

Isa 42:9  Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

Isa 43:18  Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

Isa 43:19  Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth;

Jer 31:31  Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

because his compassions fail not.

Lam 3:23  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Ezek 11:19  And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you;

Ezek 36:26  A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you:

Luke 5:33/9   new wine into new wine skins

The use of wine skins       -       dead carcass

When it’s empty  it’s dry, hard, inflexible, useless, throwaway.

The only important thing is the wine.

History is filled with dead carcasses;

people, organisations, denominations, churches,  that wouldn't stay flexible to the new wine

they like the way it used to be (old wine - mellow - dead)

3/ You'll always get what you've always got

There is a need to sacrifice for the new thing

Wine skins come by ripping the guts out of an innocent lamb or kid

change means sacrifice

A lot of people don't accept change because they're not willing to sacrifice for the new thing

Sometimes you've got to stop doing it because its not working

EG. blowfly at window

A hundred times he flies into the glass trying to escape to the outdoors he can see.

The next morning you’ll find his body on the window sill, he never looked for the open door.

We've got to get used to taking the new wine

v39 they like the old wine because its mellow/dead, it doesn't challenge them

new wine is full of life, fizz, challenge

new people come in the church they don't know we've done it this way for 25 years

they come up with new ideas,

they require work, effort, challenge, sacrifice

Don't fall for the old trick     -    "the old is better"

the new wine is full of fizz and life its always better

What God does is always new and yet he changes not.

The methods change but the message remains the same.

Where will you be in 1 yr,  5yrs,  10yrs

will you still be a pew warmer admiring the good things that someone else does.

If you want to get something different to what you've always got

You've got to do something different to what you've always done

Where will your ministry be in 1yr, 5yrs, 10yrs

CONCLUSION
Warning

New wine will burst old wine skins

wine will run out

wine will be ruined

You will lose even what you had if not willing to change

Encouragement

There's always a new wine with God

Prophecy

God is engineering change in his church

Take action  - make a change, in your life, family, income, ministry

Greatest change ask Jesus to be your Lord

I have the keen interest to pertnership with this vision because the Ogoni community is dying for lack of ideas.Ignorance is not only a desease3 in Ogoni but a mass grave that swallow both the laity and the ministers. In other word,if ignorance was only a desease,I think they can be cure with ideas, But when it is appearing as mass grave, the only remedy now is redemption. For this reasons,I believe that God will use you to redeeem the Ogoni from now henceforth.

Amazing Testimony of God’s protection

I would not normally run a feedback this long but you just have to read this story., I have cut parts out to shorten it. Ps Krishna has been a regular reader and contributor to these pages for several years. God is so good.

Dear Pastor Howard,
Greetings from
Nepal in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I do believe that you all are well, I am always thankful and appreciate what you have been doing to us and in our ministries personally and through your ministries.

Well, here we all family are well by the amazing grace of God and all the churches are growing spiritually and in number in and out of Kathmandu. Praise the Lord, we recently planted another two churches in eastern part of Nepal.

Please pray for my wife and me and my children that we were in car accident last week and my wife's right side first rib broke and she was been hospitalized for 2 days in Pokhara and returned home last Friday. , my head got long injured and stitching.

I was driving slowly because there is so many carving turning, there was another bus came from Pokhara and driving so crazy and very close to my car came wrong side, it looks like coming to hit my car, then I just passed by and came my right side  but I did not see the  "L" turning and car slide down about 30 fit  down to the rice field and car was rollover about 3 times, my side was very much crashed and broke all the front glass and windows and door but nothing serious happened to me, only  there is long stitched  in my head and right side shoulder part got pain and my tongue deeply cut by teeth.   My wife right side rib broken, Benjamin forehead got little bit scratched and  Joshua is fine, Praise the Lord.

As we went to police office, police inspector asked me who drive this car and the driver is still alive?? I told him, I did drive this car, he looked at me from top to bottom, and he did not believe and he said, we never see this kind bad accident but you are normal, he was asking me, what you do? I told him, I am pastor of the church, taking care the orphanage children. I told me, My God My Lord, Jesus giving me His protection, that's why we all family are fine.  I do believe in Jesus and I am serving the true and living God, by His grace we all are saved. Police was wondering, I gave him my visiting card I asked him to come to my church while you are coming to Kathmandu.

Great and thanks, I appreciate all of these wonderful encouragements. They are all good and inspiring.

We will do all our almost best, but do not forget to pray for us and all of these, because as you may know that, Liberia is just recovering from her more than 15 years of civil bloody war that have destroyed the country, its people and the christdom in Liberia, thereby making the country;s economy very much dangerous of which the Liberian themselves  and the government her self does not have control of cash and current flow and exchange rate, thereby leading us as Liberian to be open to foreign curency of the US Dollars that supercede our own currency.

So it is a great challenge, it takes the divine provision of God to make it over here, infact with the youth, the are the most vunurable ones and lack jobs and way out.

Prayers is needed most

With God,all thing are possible(Job 22:28)

Yours in His love
