ĚCall to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and wondrous things you do not know.Ě Jeremiah 33:3
Our World is a mess. The 21st century has certainly seen an increase in false prophets, nominal churches, persecution of saints, record-breaking natural disasters, famines and many nations in conflict; all increasing in not only frequency, but in intensity, like a woman experiencing birth pains (Matthew 24:14). Yet, despite these catastrophic events, the Saints of God can count on GodĚs sovereignty in any situation, for He is fully in control and His kingdom rules over all (Jeremiah 33:3; Psalm 103:19).
When these conflicts seem to rule the day, it is helpful to remember that the nations are just a drop in a bucket, a speck of dust on the scales; they are counted as nothing to God. For God does what He wants with the army of heaven and the inhabitants of the earth. Absolutely no one can hold back GodĚs hand, or even question Him (Isa. 40:15; Daniel 4:35).
We can absolutely trust God! God is motivated by His love for all the world and His motives always prevail in history (Proverbs 19:21). When His enemies plan evil against Him (or His Saints), God uses these evil things for good in order to bring about the survival of His many people (Genesis 50::20; Romans 8:28). Remember, when it seems God is acting slowly, God is showing His patience and love to the world, for He does not want anyone to perish; He desires all to turn from their evil ways to know Him (I Timothy 2:4). And while we can be sure He will eventually bring about justice, He first wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (2 Peter 8:9) for He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather He longs for that wicked person to turn from his ways and live (Ezekiel 33:11). His message to the world is, ĚRepent of your evil ways!Ě (Ezekiel 33:11). Are you demonstrating this same love toward others, sharing the gospel message of repentance?
Points to Ponder and Pray
Many do not see GodĚs love and plan for their lives and they reject His truth and way. But, without God, no one can make sense of their lives! Man was born a sinner and his heart is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9) and God made the worldĚs wisdom foolish ( I Corinthians 1:20). Are you convinced there is no wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel that will prevail against the Lord (Provers 21:30)? Do you not know that a manĚs steps are determined by the Lord, so how can anyone understand his own way (Proverbs 20:24)? Sadly, the natural man does not welcome what comes from GodĚs Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to know it since it is evaluated spiritually (I Corinthians 2:14). Yet, the person who knows God, the spiritual person, can evaluate everything, and he himself cannot be evaluated or judged by anyone (I Cor. 2:15). We all have a choice to make. Do you want to know God and be born again spiritually, with His Spirit living in you teaching you the things of God, or do you want to remain a natural man, who does not understand GodĚs great love and plan for your life?
If you are a believer, you have another choice to make. Perhaps youĚve been born again by GodĚs Spirit, but you remain ignorant of GodĚs love and plan. Yet, God revealed His great love and plan for us by sending His Son, Jesus, as a living sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, the only reasonable and acceptable worship of God is to offer ourselves completely to God, and become a living sacrifice too, just like Jesus! Are you truly worshiping God by yielding to Him as an instrument of righteousness (Romans 6:12-13; 8:11-13), or are you acting like those who donĚt know God and His truth?
Are you conformed to this world (Romans 12:2), living a life controlled by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life ( I John 2:15-16)? Are you controlled by your flesh through your appetites, like excessive desires for food, drink, sex and those things that satisfy our physical needs? Are you controlled by the lust of your eyes, coveting whatever you see that you donĚt have and envying those who have what you want? Is God and His love and plan an afterthought in your life, replaced by your prideful ambitions which puff you up, placing you on the throne of your life?
The only way NOT to be conformed to the world is to be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2). GodĚs Word transforms our mind, and when we ask God to teach us His way through the power of His Holy Spirit, we can trust Him to do so. His Word is all we need to make us complete, and thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16). Are you renewing your mind, by daily and intentionally hearing (Romans 10:17), reading (Revelation 1:3), studying (Acts 17:11), memorizing (Psalm 119:9-11), and meditating on (Psalm 1:2-3) His Word? Being a living sacrifice is the normal, expected way of life for any believer (Romans 12:2). If you are being conformed to this world by living a carnal (fleshly) life, then repent, and intentionally seek God. Call on Him now, and He will teach you the things you do not know (Jeremiah 33:3)! He is a gracious God, worthy of our worship! Be a living sacrifice!
