The Blood Covenant and Why We Need It
In the beginning, God set up a system by which man can be cleansed from sin and thus restoring the covenant between them and God. God has always had a great love for His people. He called us His beloved, meaning greatly loved as Bro Jerry taught on Sunday.
His purpose of creating mankind was for them to have fellowship with Him. As most of you know, the blessings of Abraham are listed in Deut 28:1-14. These blessings belong to you through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. (Gal 3:13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:(Gal 3:14) That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Under the Old Covenant, lambs or bullocks or even a dove for the poorest of God¯s people were given in sin sacrifice. God set the precedent from the beginning that when an offering such as a lamb were made for our sins, we became forgiven and again eligible for the promises of God. It was through the shedding of blood forgiveness came.
(Heb 9:22) And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
God has no part with your sin. Sin separates you from God, but the gift of His son is the gift of eternal life. You are forgiven once and for all when Jesus became the lamb. (Rom 6:23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
In our body there are several life giving sources that keep us going. Each of them plays an important part.
1. The Blood
2. The Water
All three have to work together to provide the other parts of the body an ample supply of blood, water and oxygen. The most important thing here is the blood. There is life in the blood and the blood is pumped from the heart.
Lev 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
The word atonement in Webster¯s dictionary=the redeeming of men by Christ through His incarnation, sufferings, and death.
In Strong¯s it states, A primitive root; to cover (specifically with bitumen); figuratively to expiate or condone, to placate or cancel: - appease, make (an) atonement, cleanse, disannul, forgive, be merciful, pacify, pardon, to pitch, purge (away), put off, (make) reconcile (-liation).
Why did God make a blood covenant?
He made it for two reasons. For the forgiveness of our sins, and for the healing of our disease. The Blood covenant is the most powerful covenant on earth. It covers everything that you could possibly think of.
There is protection in the blood...
Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
Heb 13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
The blood covering also means:
(1) In(the) shadow (that is, protection) of God.
(2) Sense of covering (for protection); a lamb.
(3) The blood covering can mean=to tent or encamp, that is to occupy (as a mansion) or (specifically) to reside (as God did in the Tabernacle of old, a symbol for protection and communion): - dwell.
Psa 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psa 91:2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Psa 91:3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
Psa 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Psa 91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Psa 91:6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Psa 91:7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Psa 91:8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Psa 91:9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
Psa 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
Psa 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
Psa 91:12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Psa 91:13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Psa 91:14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
Psa 91:15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
Psa 91:16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
Look at the story in Exodus 12:3-13. In these scriptures God was making sure that His people and their families were preparing to receive Gods protection through the blood of a lamb. They needed to take certain steps in order to receive. Remember that was in the Old Testament.
Exo 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Exo 12:4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
Exo 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
Exo 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
Exo 12:7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
Exo 12:8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Exo 12:9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
Exo 12:10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
Exo 12:11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover.
Exo 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
Exo 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
The New Testament¯.
In the New Testament, Christ is the Lamb who paid the ultimate price for us by being hung on a cross so that His blood that was shed would protect us, and that His blood would cleanse us from all sin. His blood restores us to right standing with the father and eligible for all the blessings of Abraham or anywhere else in the word of God.
1Pe 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1Pe 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
1Pe 1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
There is Power in the Blood of Jesus¯..
In Luke 10;19 God gave us the same authority that Jesus has and as believers we can use it in our ever day lives.
Luk 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
We are overcomers. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of our testimony. Our testimony is that Jesus paid a debt He did not owe for me and now the power of Christ is available to me.
Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
(Luk 10:19) Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Words to Chorus:
He paid a debt He did not owe, I owed a debt I could not pay. I needed someone to wash my sins away. And now I sing a brand new song, Amazing Grace. Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay.
Satan is afraid of the blood of Jesus
He knows what that blood did to him. He now runs from the blood. This is why we ¯plead the blood.¯ We are claiming the blood covering. When we ask forgiveness for our sins, we are claiming the blood covenant. In other words we are receiving the blood covering and thus empowering us again with the power of God.
The putting of the blood on the doorpost was a metaphor for pleading the blood of Jesus by faith. When he saw the blood over the doorposts, he passed on by. They were protected for that great plague of the death of the first born. Today, when we receive the finished work of Calvary by faith, the curse will pass over and cause us no harm.
(Exo 12:23) For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
