Words are Servants

Begin with this story found in (Luk 8:22)  Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

(Luk 8:23)  But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.

(Luk 8:24)  And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

(Luk 8:25)  And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

¯

Obviously faith was in His heart and in His mouth when He spoke those Words that day.  The wind and the sea obeyed Him.  The storm was calmed and everyone was saved.  The disciples had faith in their surroundings more than the word of the Lord.  What will you believe.  Is it what you see with your natural eyes or what the Word of God says.  (Mat 8:26a)  And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?

Read in (Luk 17:5)  And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. They clearly had not learned all their faith lessons yet.  The Word tells us how to receive faith.  Perhaps the best or at least one of the best scriptures is found in (Romans 10:17) So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. They also needed to read in Mark 4 and Mark 11:23-24.

(Mar 4:3)  Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

(Mar 4:4)  And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

(Mar 4:5)  And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

(Mar 4:6)  But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

¯

(Mar 4:7)  And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

(Mar 4:8)  And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

¯

(Mar 4:14)  The sower soweth the word.

(Mar 4:15)  And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

(Mar 4:16)  And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

(Mar 4:17)  And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

(Mar 4:18)  And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

(Mar 4:19)  And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

(Mar 4:20)  And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

(Mar 4:21)  And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

(Mar 4:22)  For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

(Mar 4:23)  If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

(Mar 4:24)  And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

(Mar 4:25)  For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

¯

(Mar 4:26)  And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

(Mar 4:27)  And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

(Mar 4:28)  For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

(Mar 4:29)  But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

(Mar 4:30)  And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

(Mar 4:31)  It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:

(Mar 4:32)  But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

¯

On another occasion, the disciples failed to cast out a devil.  When they asked the Lord why it didn¯t come out for them, He answered with these Words.  (Mat 17:20)  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.  These words you will find much like (Luk 17:6)  And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.  Both of those scriptures are talking about problems or circumstances.

¯

Jesus used the grain of the mustard seed as an example.  Maybe you should look at that verse in a different way.  The mustard plant is a plant that will not be hybrid with any other kind.  No matter what you do, it is always mustard.  Maybe Jesus was saying that if you will have faith that will not change under any circumstances or another¯

(Gal 5:1)  Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

¯

When Jesus answered His followers when they were asking Him to increase their faith, He might have been saying to them ¯You don¯t need more faith, you need to use what you have.¯

¯

You have to plant your faith.  Luke 17:6 and Matthey 17:20 contain three vital secrets of faith.

1.    Faith works like a seed

2.    You must plant it to get any benefit from it.

3.    You plant your faith by speaking words that line up with the Word of God.

¯

The Kingdom of God operates on the principal of sowing a reaping.

(Mar 4:26)  And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

¯

In studying the Word of God, I am now totally convinced that the seed cannot e planted in your hears unless you speak words.  They will not abide in the heart unless you speak them.

(Rom 10:6)  But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

¯

(Rom 10:7)  Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

(Rom 10:8)  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

¯

Bible teachers tell us that in the original language (vs 8) it leaves out the word even.  The literal translation would then be, ¯the Word is in they mouthn and then in they heart.¯

¯

You must learn to leave your seed in the ground.  If a farmer planted a crop of corn on Monday.  He then dug it up on Friday.  He would have no harvest.  Plants must be put into the ground, watered and kept clear of weeds.  It is the same when we have planted our spiritual seeds.    Keep your confessions correctly spoken.  Don¯t pluck your plants before harvest.

¯

Jesus called this man¯s faith ¯great faith.¯  He had settled it in His heart and then spoke it.

(Mat 8:6)  And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

(Mat 8:7)  And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

(Mat 8:8)  The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

(Mat 8:9)  For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

(Mat 8:10)  When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

¯

Words filled with faith become your servants.  They will work for you day in and day out.  Have you left you faith filled words lying idle?  You will be giving an account for how you handle faith.

 In Him,
