Proverbs 17:2, “A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame,”
Two individuals are spoken about in this verse – a Foolish Son that causes shame and a Wise Servant. Let’s examine them both.
1. The Foolish Son that causes shame is described in several ways
a. Proverbs 10:5 – he is lazy
b. Proverbs 9:26 – he wastes his father’s money
c. Proverbs 19:26 – he won’t heed his mother’s warning
d. Proverbs 29:15 – he got his way all his life because he was left to himself
2. The Wise Servant shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren, according to verse 2. How do we detect a Wise Servant?
a. This Wise Servant has a listening ear
b. He has an obedient heart
c. He honors his boss
d. He works diligently
e. He protects his possessions
The Foolish Son starts with much but he loses it all. The Wise Servant starts out with little but gains great possessions. No matter what our lot in life is – it is better to follow the example of the Wise Servant than the Foolish Son.%%detect_both%%
