PRAISE AND POWER                      COMPLETE IS COMPLETE            June 11, 2018

At times in our publications we talk about certain Greek words that are found in the manuscripts from which the English versions of the Bible are translated. Most scholars agree that Jesus Christ did not speak Greek. He spoke Aramaic. Because of this the Aramaic manuscripts of the New Testament are significant. In this edition we are going to look at a particular rarely used Aramaic form.

This form is called the extra-extensive form. Only 15 words of the over 3400 Aramaic words used in the Aramaic New Testament exhibit this form. One of these words is the word translated “complete” in Colossians 2:10: “And ye are complete [the English spelling of the transliterated Aramaic word is mstmliton ] in him [Christ], which is the head of all principality and power: …” If something is complete it is complete. This Aramaic form is translated “completely, completely, absolutely complete.” The English translation does not convey this intensity. God did not leave anything out when He gave believers the new birth gift of holy spirit.

Colossians 1:27b says that according to the riches of the glory of the mystery of God for each believer it is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Christ is in every believer. That is how the name Christian originated. Christ is in each believer so we are called Christ – ins. But the Christ in me is not of less or more value or significance than the Christ in you. Christ is in each Christian and each Christian is complete in Christ. No person is partially complete. Everyone in Christ is completely, completely, absolutely complete in him.

This reminds me of a verse, Psalms 12:6 God’s Word says: “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” God’s Word is given word by word in purity. These words do not need to be purified, re-purified, re-purified, re-purified, re-purified, etc. seven times, They came from God that pure from the beginning. In the Bible, seven is the number for spiritual perfection. God’s words come from God with this level of purity from the start. The completeness we have in Christ is like that. We have it that way from the time of the new birth. Nothing we do can improve on the completeness we have from God in Christ.

We can learn to walk by the spirit, operate the nine manifestations of holy spirit and believe the written Word of God. All of this is wonderful. But this does not give us more completeness in Christ. When it comes to what God accomplished for us by way of Jesus Christ; complete is complete. We are lacking nothing. As the Aramaic indicates, we are completely, completely, absolutely complete in Christ. What a great truth!
