PRAISE AND POWER                   GOD’S DESIRE FOR HIS PEOPLE                        October 11, 2018

Some people, Christian people, do not know God’s will for their lives. “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (III John 2) Other people think God makes them sick. God’s desire is that His people prosper and enjoy good health. What a comfort to know that God’s desire, is for health and prosperity. Psalm 1:1-3 tells of the God blessed man: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD [the Word of God]; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Whatever this man does prospers because he or she meditates on God’s Word and avoids the ungodly, sinners and scornful. He or she is planted in the right place for growth and blessings. “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

All of God’s Word is His will. God gave His Word to benefit, to bless, to help mankind. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God [God-breathed, spoken by God], and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect [furnished], throughly [perfected] furnished unto all good works.” (II Timothy 3:16, 17) Doctrine is that which is the right thing to believe. Reproof points out the places where a person is not believing rightly. Correction brings a person back to right believing. This is instruction in righteousness. Righteousness is a state where everything is set right by God. Simply, righteousness is justness according to God’s standard. God wants us to prosper and be in health, so He tells us in His Word what we need to do and believe so that all things may be that way. God equips mankind for success.

The adversary comes around to attempt to disrupt God’s desire. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I [Jesus Christ is speaking here] am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) Jesus Christ came to continue with God’s will by making the more than abundant life available to mankind. The thief who is also called the devil, Satan, and the adversary wants to get people off of the track of the way things are supposed to be and cause people to be less than what God desires for them. But we must remember: “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him [God] that loved us.” (Romans 8:37) God loves us and has instructed us by His Word so that when temptations, distractions and challenges arise, we can go to His Word remember and know what He has prepared for us; and what He has made us to be in Christ. This allows us to properly believe and live according to God’s will.

How wonderful it is for His people to have His Word and know God’s will. II Corinthians 9:8 gives us another reminder of what God is able and willing to do. “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: …” What God is able to do He is willing to do. And, what God is willing to do He is able to do. So what God says is, is. What God says was, was. What He says will be, will be. We can find all of this in His Word. Ephesians 3:20 again declares this truth for us: “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, …” God is both willing and able. So then what should do? Get busy asking and thinking.

Proverbs 3:5, 6: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
