Worldwide Great Commission Fellowship

Today’s message is about deliverance. Jesus came to save the lost and heal the sick. He came to bring about both physical and emotional healing. He came to heal the brokenhearted. In Luke 4:16-19 it says,

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Jesus came to help the hurting people. Whatever hurts we have gone through in life, Jesus came to heal us. He is our healer and Savior.

When we are saved, Jesus sets us free from bondage to sin. But we may still have emotional wounds, which must be healed. Emotional healing is also known as inner healing.

Often people become emotionally hurt when they are children. When we experience hurt, healing becomes necessary. People often try to block out the painful memories from the past. But we must deal with it, because spiritual bondage lies at the root of the painful memories.

We know that the spirit, or supernatural world is real. This is the world we cannot see, but we read about it in the Bible. The supernatural world consists of heaven and hell. God and angels live in heaven, and satan and demons live in hell. Hell was created for satan and the demons. We understand that angels and demons can interact in human affairs. Satan and demons oppress, torment and possess people. The goal of satan is to steal, kill and destroy. In John 10:10 Jesus says,

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

In 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 it says,
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds”

Where do spiritual strongholds come from? Strongholds come into our lives because there was an open door that allowed the devil to come in. The open door is known as a legal right, or an entry of evil into a person’s life. When demons enter into a person’s life, they set up a stronghold. Some examples of strongholds are: fear, anger, rejection, self-hatred, and despair. Many people struggle with problems such as anger, bitterness, depression, and addictions.

When a person has been hurt or abused, they may have hatred and unforgiveness toward whoever hurt them. Holding onto unforgiveness puts people into spiritual bondage. Some people hold onto their emotional wounds, and do not allow God to heal them. We must be healed in order to forgive. Forgiveness is a key to spiritual freedom.

There are many different addictions, such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, and pornography. Addicted people are trying to get fulfillment in something that cannot satisfy. They try to fill an emptiness inside, but it doesn’t work. The only thing that can truly satisfy is Jesus Christ.

Some people have been abandoned by a parent, spouse or friend. Abandonment can cause a person to feel they are rejected. The Lord can heal abandonment issues, because even if people reject us, God accepts us. He will never leave or forsake us. Jesus will never let us down. We are special to God, and He loves us very much.
Satan tries to make us feel condemned, or that we have sinned so badly that God would never forgive us. Satan tries to make us feel shame and guilt. But when we repent of our sins, God does forgive us, so we are no longer condemned. In Romans 8:1 it says,

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

How can a stronghold be broken, and how can a person be set free? We must break the devil’s legal right to be there, then command the demons to leave in the name of Jesus Christ. The process of casting out demons is known as deliverance.

When we read the Bible, we can see that Jesus spent a lot of time casting devils out of people. This tells us that demons are able to possess, or inhabit people. In Matthew 4:23-24 it says,

"23 And Jesus went about all Galilee , teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. 24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them."

In Matthew 8:16-17 it says,
"16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias theprophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses."

Jesus cast the deaf and dumb spirit out of a man. In Matthew 9:32-33 it says,
"32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. 33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel ."

Jesus cast an unclean spirit out of a man. In Mark 1:23-28 it says,
"23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. 25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. 26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him. 28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee ."

Jesus cast an unclean spirit out of a boy. In Luke 9:38-42 it says,
"38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. 39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. 40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. 41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither. 42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father."

Not only did Jesus cast out devils, but He told His disciples to cast out devils. In Mark 6:7, 12-13 it says,
"7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits

12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent. 13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them."

In Luke 10:17-19 it says,
"17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

Jesus cast devils out of people, He sent His disciples to cast out devils, and He gave Christians today the power and authority to cast out devils. This power to do the works that Jesus did comes from the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8 it says,
"8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

We want to be obedient to what Jesus told us to do in His Word. God’s will is to save, heal and deliver. We are to present the healing power of Jesus Christ in order to set people free. Are you ready to be set free?

Melinda Bauman was filled with the Holy Spirit in a Pentecostal church in 1990. At that time she felt the call of God on her life. In 2003 she began holding weekly Bible studies out of a coffeehouse in Euclid , then in Wickliffe . In 2005 she obtained a Pentecostal minister's license, and began holding monthly revival church services. The purpose of the services was to demonstrate the spiritual gifts and power of God to the church. Different speakers who operated in the prophetic, healing and deliverance ministered at these services.

Melinda began to pray about obtaining a building and starting a church, which would be called "Worldwide Great Commission Fellowship". God provided a building in Eastlake , and the first church service was held in April 2007. The goal of the church is to fulfill the Great Commission (Mark 16:15) by spreading the Gospel message of salvation, healing and deliverance through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
