PRAISE AND POWER                   CAN WE TRUST GOD?                   August 10, 2019

As sure as gravity works and the sun rises tomorrow, we know we can trust God. God’s Word tells us to trust Him. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him [God], and he [God] shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5, 6) We can trust God because He is trustworthy. “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he [God] said, and shall he [God] not do it? or hath he [God] spoken, and shall he [God] not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19) These are such great truths from God’s Word. God will do what He says. He will make good on whatever He speaks. What God says in, is. What He says will be, will be. What He say was, was.

Joshua 21:45 says: “There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.” What God promises, He does. None of what God has spoken has failed to come to pass. Just like in Genesis 1 when God said “let there be light,” there was light. “Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his [God’s] people Israel, according to all that he [God] promised: there hath not failed one word of all his [God’s] good promise, which he [God] promised by the hand of Moses his [God’s] servant.” (I Kings 8:56) God keeps His promises. What God promised by Moses all came to pass. It all happened just as God said it would. Not even one word of His Word failed then nor has it ever failed for that matter.

Let’s look at what II Samuel 22:31 says; “As for God, his [God’s] way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he [God] is a buckler [an offensive weapon on the front of a shield] to all them that trust in him [God].” God’s way is perfect. His Word is tested and always passes the test. We can depend on God and His Word. God is dependable and His Word is dependable. His Word declares His ways and His way is perfect. It is good for us to trust in Him because He is a buckler to all who trust in Him.

Here’s something else we can learn from God’s Word which helps us understand that God is trustworthy. Psalm 12:6, 7 says: “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” God’s words are pure words. If silver is purified; it is pure. But God’s words are as silver purified seven times. That is very, very pure. God does not give His Word and go back to re-purify It. It comes from God that pure from the moment It is given. Those words are not just pure, they are purely, purely, purely, purely, purely, purely, pure! These words from God, He has preserved by having holy men of God record them on scrolls of parchment or animal skins. Because of the diligence of various scribes over the years copies of those original words have been preserved.

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy [the prophecy of the Scripture] came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (II Peter 1:20, 21) God’s Word did not come by the will of man. God told holy men what to say and what to write. For that reason these things in God’s Word though written by men are not the words of men. God told the various writers of the Bible what to write and they wrote what God told them to. That is how we got God’s Word.

Yes, we can trust God and we can trust His Word. What a comfort to know that both God and His Word are trustworthy.
