PRAISE AND POWER                               THE LOVE OF GOD                             September 14, 2019

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he [Jesus Christ] shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” (1 John 3:1, 2) Those born again of God’s gift of holy spirit are beloved of God. God’s love for His people is so wonderful. God loves us so much that He has called us His sons. In the future when Christ returns we will be like him, and shall see him as he is. “We love him [God], because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) God has loved us into loving Him. Because He so loves us, we can love Him.

“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is [the] love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation [payment] for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.”      (1 John 4:9 - 11) This is much like John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) Because of God’s love in sending the Lord Jesus Christ, we have sonship, everlasting life and enjoy being beloved of God.

“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:16 - 18) Just think about this: God is love. What a great truth! Whoever dwells in God dwells in love. We can have boldness because of God’s love perfected. As He is, so are we in this world. How powerful this love of God is. Perfect love casts out fear. Where can we find this perfect love? “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost [holy spirit] which is given unto us.” (Romans 5:5) With this gift of holy spirit, the love of God is spread abroad in our hearts. This gives us the capacity to love as God has loved us. “But whoso keepeth his [God’s] word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him [God].” (1 John 2:5) The love of God is perfected in us by our keeping His Word.

I Corinthians 13 illustrates the more excellent way which can be understood as “the love” which is the right way of loving as opposed to all other ways of loving. “Charity [the love] suffereth long, and is kind; charity [the love] envieth not; charity [the love] vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; …” (1 Corinthians 13:4 - 6) The love is not egotistical, not easily provoked, thinks no evil. This has been called the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation.

God is love. His love is perfected in us. We have the capacity to love with that love of God spread abroad in our hearts by the holy spirit. As He is, so are in this world. “Beloved, let us love one another: for [the] love is of God; and every one that loveth [in this way] is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (1 John 4:7, 8) Love is of God. With our this love from God, we should love one another.

Let’s look at the answer Jesus Christ gave to the lawyer in Matthew 22:37 – 39: “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” The great truths of loving God and loving one another are not new. What is new is that God has increased our capacity to love by the gift of holy spirit. God has acted out of love toward His people in giving His Son, calling us sons, giving us the way to overcome fear, making grace available and so many other things. God is love. Love is of God. Let’s live by the more excellent way of the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation. Let’s live and move and have our being in the love of God
