PRAISE AND POWER                      FORGET NOT ALL HIS BENEFITS                        November 22, 2019

God tells us in Philippians 3:13: ". . . but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before…"  As Christian believers we have the right and responsibility to refute the past and declare null and void the things that God has said He would remember no more.

Hebrews 8:12 and 10:7 tell us that God promised, ". . . their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." If God will not remember them, then why should we? Often we catch ourselves saying, "If only I had done such and such differently . . ." or, "I wish I had done this or that,… then things would be different today.” When we have these thoughts we are only falling into the pattern of thinking of this world.

Any time we fail God, we can come to Him with hearts open to His love. All sins and iniquities are forgotten. God does not remember them. He will not recall them to His remembrance. It's as though we had never sinned or failed Him in any way. The past is forgotten. Now is where we live. God fulfills His promises NOW! Yesterday is past and forgotten. God has promises for us right NOW.

We don't have to wait for a certain set of circumstances to happen, and then God will fulfill His promise. We don't have to wait for the "right" person to come along, or for our financial situation to be just "right." God does not require a certain set of circumstances in order to fulfill His Word. Obviously, we are not to forget everything in our past. That would be foolishness. We forget the things that God forgets, our sins and iniquities. "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." (Romans 15:4) If we will learn from the past, then, of course we cannot forget it, so "that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope."

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:" (Psalm 103:2) We are not expected to remember all of them; we just try not to forget all of them. There are many benefits from God. “…forget not all his benefits.” All of God's benefits are available right now. They were available yesterday when yesterday was "now." They will be available tomorrow, when tomorrow will be "now." But right now, this very moment, as you read this, His promises are available. Don't think, "yes, but, I have lied, cheated, stolen, treated someone badly, failed to walk for God here and there."

He cares about who we are right now. He gave His Son for us. Jesus Christ paid the price for our redemption and salvation! We are no longer enemies; we are no longer separated from God. We are more than conquerors. We can reign in life because we have new birth. We just have to believe it. God is our Father. We have access to Him all the time. We are joint heirs with Christ!!! God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings; that it is almost incomprehensible.

And amazing as it seems, we do not have to do anything to receive these benefits of God except be born again and believe God’s Word. No contests or lotteries to enter. No man-made rules and regulations to follow. It's just believing God’s Word today, now. And it's just God and me. Today, we will forget the past, the things that God forgets. Today we will remember God's benefits, and enjoy them. We'll remember God's benefits tomorrow when it comes.
