PRAISE AND POWER                            Count Your Blessings                   October 15, 2020

“Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.” (Psalm 145:3) God is to be praised greatly. Praise is due Him. We owe it to Him. He deserves our praise.

An example of how to praise God greatly is found in Psalms 145 - 150. The first four verses of this selection say, “I will extol [praise highly, glorify] thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.”

Often praising God is the last thing we are interested in doing. The adversary entices us away from praising God with disappointment or tragedy. A “bad hair day” might tempt a person to refrain from praising God. Worldly circumstances should never dictate whether we give praise to God. He is always deserving of praise. We owe it to Him, no matter how we feel. We might hit our thumb with a hammer, or lose the car keys, or think we have been treated in an un-Christian way. What do we do? Probably our first reaction might be to utter expletives, kick the car or retaliate to get even.

All this kind of reaction will do is to put distance between us and our walk with God. Obviously, we don’t praise God for the circumstances that offended us. He isn’t responsible for those situations. Satan is. So instead, we can praise and thank God for Who He is and for what He has done for us. We ask Him to help us in your current situation. God always delivers in every situation. We can always be thankful and praise Him.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) When we submit to God and resist the Devil he will flee from us. We resist by standing faithful to God. God has blessed us in obvious countless ways. He has also blessed in ways we may not recognize.

God is continually healing our bodies. He is continually giving us guidance and inspiration as we continue to walk with Him. We may not recognize it as coming from God. As we learn to recognize it as coming from God, we will want to praise and thank Him more and more. ”Surely [God’s] goodness and mercy shall follow [pursue] me all the days of my life: ...” (Psalm 23:6a)

“I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.” (Psalm 77:11 - 14)

We count our blessings. We thank and praise God. The devil flees from us. We live in joy, peace and abundance.
