1 John 2:20-27 (KJV)
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
"He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son".
This is a very interesting statement of Truth. What is it saying?
Apparently it is the absolute dividing line between the true and the false, the Christ and the antichrist, a genuine relationship with God and a counterfeit.
John is saying here that we have an Unction from the Holy One and we know all things. This is the indwelling witness of God's Spirit. 1 John 4:13 "Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit."
1 John 5:10 "He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself:..."
And then John goes on to say that he is not writing unto them because they know NOT the Truth, but he is writing unto them because they KNOW the Truth. Isn't this a strange thing? You'd think that he would be desiring to teach them Truth because they do not know certain things. But this is not the case.
You see, the very concept and reality of the "Father and the Son" is the vital fact of a one-on-one relationship between the "birthed" and the "Birther". The offspring and the Father. Or shall I say, "a one-IN-one relationship".
In this case with God and His children the Birther indwells His offspring, and nothing is to come between, supersede or trump that intimate relationship.
Any Revelation of Truth that comes forth...either from the inner voice of God or the outer voices of ministry, it must invariably be made real to us by God Himself directly.
John knew that any Truth he spoke to God's people would resonate within them as a confirmation of what they already knew from the inner witness and unction of God's Spirit. All that we need to know is lying within us in the omniscience of God's Spirit.
John continues to say that he is telling them these things because of those that would try to seduce them. He is reminding them and confirming to them this all-important truth that as we abide in the indwelling of God and that inner knowing, anything contrary to Truth will be easily detected.
Our responsibility is to get intimately familiar with God, His ways and His Voice. SIMPLE. That's always the bottom line, isn't it?! But now we know why. Verse 27 is so revealing in this regard...powerful!...
27 But the Anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same Anointing teacheth you of all things, and is Truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.
So you see, it is not as other people teach us that determines our abiding in Him. It is not the 5-fold ministry that we are to look to for strength and confidence, but ONLY as their teaching and ministry is made real to us by the indwelling of God's Spirit.
It is as the Anointing hath taught us that determines our abiding in Him. This is our ONLY confidence that we may "not be ashamed before Him at His coming".
1 John 2:28
"And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming."
It is that "Father and Son" new Testament reality that we, as sons and daughters, are innately a part of...by birth and inheritance. It is only as we abide in that indwelling Spirit of Love and Truth that guarantees our "continuing in the Father and the Son". (1 John 2:24)
Conversely, it is as we begin to trust in outside sources and mediators that we depart from that one-on-one relationship of Father and Son and entertain an antichrist spirit. It is spiritual adultery and idolatry!
Once again, that relationship between Jesus and the Father is our ultimate and infallible pattern. We enter that relationship between the Birther and His offspring, indwelt by Him, when we are born-again. Nothing short of what Jesus Himself enjoyed with the Father.
I trust that this exhortation will ring true with God's elect and foster a refreshing of inner confidence, and a renewed trust in the indwelling of the Anointing.
The next time someone accuses you of being "unteachable", tell them..."yes, I am unteachable from the outside, but very teachable from the INSIDE, as God's true ministry confirms and awakens what I already know by His indwelling."
