THE DAY BEFORE THE CRUCIFIXION

REMEMBER HIS DEATH UNTIL HE COMES

Today.... the day before the crucifixion ..the greatest thing took place....It was the announcement of Jesus' instituting a NEW COVENANT in His own blood.

This was the passover celebration of ALL TIME. All the previous celebrations were just leading up to the last supper that Jesus ate with His disciples. It was at this passover dinner that the old covenant using the blood of sanctified animals, (administered by the high priest) was changed to one of sharing the blood (wine) and the body (unleavened bread) of the real and eternal, one and only high priest. They shared the bread and the cup with each other in a bond of friendship (and even with Jesus' enemy), to remember His death until He comes.

WE MUST SERVE THOSE WORSE OFF THAN OURSELVES

Let us recall that he started this Passover dinner by washing the disciples feet. He actually took off his clothing and wore a towel to do this humble act of serving his disciples. Let us take note that in the world, all disciples serve their masters, but here, the master is serving the disciples. It is a lesson to all of us to serve those worse off than ourselves.

BETRAYAL WE CAN ENDURE

Now eating at the table with Jesus was the very man who had set up to betray Him into the hands of His enemies. Consequently Jesus was judged in the governmental and religious courts of men.  Jesus did not deny His fellowship to His betrayer.

WE SET OUR FACE LIKE FLINT TO DO THE FATHER'S WILL

It was after the dinner that Jesus went to the garden to pray and was abandoned by His disciples. They could not watch one hour with him. It was his time to wrestle with the powers of darkness and gain the victory over what lay ahead and He had to do it alone. He bent his will to that of the Father and set His face like flint.

WE CAN ENDURE REJECTION, MISTREATMENT, MOCKING …...PERSECUTION

His enemies arrested him and took Him to be judged. He was whipped with 40 stripes for our healing. He was stripped. He was mocked with robes and a crown of thorns, and had to endure the demands of those He was sent to save, preferring a rebel leader to be released, and Him to be sentenced. He needed another to carry his own cross as He was too weakened. He was unjustly and shamefully hung with thieves ---his reputation shattered with the sign hung over Him saying, “THE KING OF THE JEWS”.

LET US DETERMINE TO GO ALL THE WAY WITH OUR JESUS FOR HE IS THE ONLY ONE WORTHY TO FOLLOW.
