This Is the Second Teaching for September 2007:

Paul’s Prayer for Us!

In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians Church he prays a prayer of thanksgiving for their faithfulness. In Ephesians 1:18 and 19 Paul mentions three things that could give them hope in the future. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.” (Ephesians 1:18, 19 NASB)

First, we will look at the first of these three things that Paul reminds us of; our hope in Jesus. This is a look toward the past, to the time when we were “called” or were converted to be followers of Christ. Our “hope” is in a sure future forever with Jesus Christ in eternity. The word “know” in the above Scripture is a word for factual knowledge. It is a fact, not a wish, that we will spend eternity with Him. Death is just a transition to a better life.

Second, Paul mentioned that we are Jesus Christ’s own inheritance. This is in the future. We are very precious to Him. He will take extreme care of us as the result. In the first phrase of this Scripture, He is more precious than silver or gold, in the second phrase we are more precious than all wealth the world offers. This is given to Jesus by God the Father.

Third, Paul informs us that we have available the “power” that raised Jesus from the dead (Eph. 1:19, 20). This is in the present. This word “Power” is “dynamis” in the Greek language. This power is a spiritually dynamic and living force. With this power, which is given through the Holy Spirit, we can do all that God requires of us.

I pray this prayer (Ephesians 1:15-23) over may whole family each day. I insert their names each place Paul says “You” or “Your.” You may want to do this also.
