"A wise person chooses the right road; a fool takes the wrong one". Ecclesiastes 10:2
Happy New Year Beloved Friends,
We are thanking the Lord for making us witness a new year.
Last year is history, though its memory whichever way it meets you lives on. I must say for us it had been a difficult conclusion to last year: ill-health affecting both our aging fathers and the loss of a dear family friend, one of my respected fathers in the Lord and servant of God Rev. B.E Ajibola (RIP) just after Christmas - it was a not cheerful start to the New Year.
2015 is here and we must move on. Joel Osteen said:
“You must make a decision that you are going to move on. It won’t happen automatically. You will have to rise up and say, ‘I don’t care how hard this is, I don’t care how disappointed I am, I’m not going to let this get the best of me. I’m moving on with my life.”
To those who are mourning the loss of a dear one, let's draw inspiration from David's action following the death of his baby born in adultery after his romance with Bathsheba (Uriah the Hittite's wife). The Lord had judged in this case due to David's sin (2 Samuel 12:13).
However, our learning today should be David's action after the loss.
After a period of fasting and praying, lying on the floor, things did not change! How often have you been disappointed that having done all i.e. dressed smartly, read all kinds of books on taking job interviews , yet you still do not impress recruiters; or you tried to be best you can to win a contract you felt strongly equipped for and yet it was not offered you?...
What is the right attitude in these circumstances?
David gives us a clue. In 2 Samuel 12:19-20 the Bible says:
"19 When David saw them whispering, he realized what had happened. “Is the child dead?” he asked.
“Yes,” they replied, “he is dead.”
20 Then David got up from the ground, washed himself, put on lotions, and changed his clothes. He went to the Tabernacle and worshiped the Lord. After that, he returned to the palace and was served food and ate."
Beloved, can I ask you now to wipe your tears, take a proper bath, apply lotion and dress like you are attending a wedding reception, smile and make merry. Hard as the situation is you can experience real joy.
2015 is just beginning, ask the Lord to help you choose the right road. (Ecclesiastes 10:2). You have wept all through the night: the watch night of 2014 into 2015 was a sad one as you had no one by your side, 2015 is a year you cannot afford to make mistakes by treading the wrong path...
It’s the dawn of the New Year ... Joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5b)
We welcome you to walk, experience pure JOY that cannot be dimmed in 2015.
As we journey on God's directed road in 2015, may I request you consecrate yourself to the Lord as we jointly reflect on this YouTube song by William McDowell titled:
'I Give Myself Away'
