Disaster relief volunteers assisting in Texas

Dear Friend,

The Global Reach Network is helping Operation Blessing "get the word out" regarding the need for volunteers due to the recent flooding disaster.

Volunteers are needed to help Texas residents salvage belongings, remove debris and gut damaged homes after severe flooding devastated several communities and left entire neighborhoods in ruins.

At this writing, Global Reach is not officially sending any teams to Texas. But if you are considering traveling to assist relief efforts, we are willing to help you with "creative carpooling". Contact our office for more details. Included below is a recent request from Operation Blessing with important details.

Also please take a moment to pray for struggling families in Texas who have been affected by the unforgiving floodwaters. Pray for comfort for those who have lost loved ones and for peace and hope for victims facing overwhelming circumstances as a result of this disaster.

Thank you,

Edward Slonchka

Operation Blessing’s U.S. Disaster Relief Team is currently in the field in San Marcos, TX in response to the historic flooding in the region. San Marcos, along with the affected communities of Wimberley and Martindale, reside in between Austin and San Antonio, TX.

We need your help! Operation Blessing can’t help residents in the affected areas without help from people like you. We began accepting local volunteers on Thursday, May 28, and will open up overnight housing for out-of-town volunteers beginning Monday, June 1.

When asking for volunteers to deploy for disasters, we ask that volunteers:
•  Be 18 years of age and older.
•  Be able to deploy in groups of at least two or more.
•  Be able to provide their own transportation to and from their homes to the deployment location as well as from their lodging location to the job site during their stay.
•  Operation Blessing will take care of your tools, project coordination, food and lodging during your deployment with us, (please keep in mind lodging may be comprised of very basic accommodations due to the nature of the event).
•  Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and rubber boots for safety reasons.
•  Also, if you are an out of town volunteer, we need to know at least 48 hours in advance of your desired arrival so that our team in the field can prepare for your team’s arrival.

Local Volunteer – Local volunteers are meeting at 8:00 a.m. for registration and a brief orientation at Hill Country Church, 1401 Davis Lane. Teams will be sent out at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Out-of-town Volunteers – May begin arriving Monday, June 1, through Saturday, June 13. Any volunteer not living in the surrounding community will need to have a confirmed registration to stay in OB housing. We appreciate your heart and desire to serve, but please do not arrive prior to Monday. Please contact our volunteer manager to register at least 48 hours prior to your desired arrival date to reserve your spot and to receive a registration confirmation and more details.

There has been a great outpouring of desire to volunteer and we are blessed to have your continued support! We look forward to working with you in order to bring hope back to the people of San Marcos and surrounding area.

If you are interested in being a part of our relief efforts as a local volunteer or starting Monday as an out-of-town volunteer, please respond by emailing your information to our national volunteer manager, Robyn Florian, at volunteer@ob.org or 757-226-3407. We will need to know your group contact email and phone number, size of group and desired arrival day. Emails can be sent at any time, and voicemails will be responded to as promptly as possible.

We look forward to hearing from you and serving with you in San Marcos. We could not do what we do without our incredible volunteers!

Blessings,

Robyn
