PRAISE AND POWER                          WHAT TO SEEK                     November 28, 2017

Everyone needs the basic necessities of life like food, shelter and clothing. Let’s see what God has to say about acquiring such things. “Therefore take no thought [be not anxious], saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles [unbelieving nations] seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” (Matthew 6:31, 32) God’s people should never be anxious about such things. God knows what every person needs. Look at III John 2: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” God does not want His people to have only the basics. He wants prosperity and health for them.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19) God is our supplier. What a great promise from God! According to His riches and glory! How does He do it? What steps should be taken to have all needs met, to prosper and be in health? Matthew 6:33 tells us where to start: “But seek [strive to find, search for] ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” We are to seek the provider not the provision. Let’s consider some information in the context.

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures [thoughts and affections] upon earth [worldly, material things], where moth [fear] and rust [worry] doth corrupt [breed], and where thieves [doubts] break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures [thoughts and affections] in heaven [on spiritual things of God], where neither moth [fear] nor rust [worry] doth corrupt [breed], and where thieves [doubts] do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure [thoughts and affections] is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:19 - 21) (The words provided in brackets here were supplied according to teachings by Bishop KC Pillai regarding what people, who lived in Biblical lands and times, would have understood these words to mean.) People who seek material things live in doubt, worry and fear. Their thoughts and affections are on needs rather than on God who is the provider. When we look to God, we have peace not anxiety.

People who become anxious about their needs and wants will have material things become their master. God has a better approach. “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon [material things]. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought [be not anxious] for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” (Matthew 6:24 - 26) Seeking God and the things of God allows Him to provide the necessities, prosperity and health.

God knows what people need and want. He has provided the means to acquire the necessities, prosperity and health. Remember verse 21: “For where your treasure [thoughts and affections] is, there will your heart be also.” If we put our thoughts and affections on material things, they become our master. When we seek first the kingdom of God by putting our thoughts and affections on the things of God, He remains our master. Our heavenly Father can and will take care of His people when they seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Let’s do this God’s way rather than the world’s way. God shall provide!
