PRAISE AND POWER                         GOD IS AS GOOD AS HIS WORD                           May 31, 2021

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” (Psalm 23:6) The goodness of God follows [pursues] God’s people all of our days. God in His goodness leads His children to repentance (Romans 2:4.) God in His goodness and His desire to make life blessed for the believer has given us instruction in various areas. The Word of God gives us all the instruction that we need in our Christian walk as husbands, as wives, as young people, as elderly. It's all in the Scriptures and in the new nature realities we have because of the new birth. He loves us and wants the best for us.

In Psalm 52:1 we learn that "…the goodness of God endureth continually." There is nowhere we can go, but that God's bountiful goodness is there to bring us to salvation, to bless our lives forever.
The Lord is abundant in goodness. "And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth." (Exodus 34:6)   ". . . the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD."  (Psalm 33:5)  If you want to learn more about how good God is, read many of the Psalms that are praises to God for His great goodness, especially Psalm 104.
God is as good as His Word. Many men may say that about themselves or others. "I am a man of my word," or "he's a man of his word.” God is not a man and He cannot lie. Numbers 23:19 says, "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" God is as good as His Word and He does not lie.

Psalm 37:4 informs us that He will also give us the desires of our heart. What are the desires of your heart? "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." (The desires of the heart that agree with His Word.) Then Psalm 37:5 reinforces that whatever our desires are He shall bring it to pass. "Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."

Proverbs 3:5 and 6 instruct us to trust in the Lord. He will direct our paths. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Psalm 37:3 teaches us that when we trust in the Lord we will also be fed. "Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed."

To the youth, I Timothy 4:12 says, "Let no man despise thy youth [think disparagingly of you as a youth]; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation [in manner of life], in charity [in love], in spirit [omitted in critical Greek texts], in faith [in believing], in purity."  What a challenge to young people!

The oldsters are also challenged. "…That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” (Titus 2:2-5) The Scripture has all the instructions, and God in His goodness is always there to guide and direct, strengthen and protect us, and meet every specific need.
God's goodness benefits believers: it is profitable. His goodness is praiseworthy and bountiful. His goodness endures forever. And what God says He has made available to us, we can count on it. We continue to praise God for His goodness, and we expect the results He has promised. "Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.” (Psalm 145:3, 7)
