River Revelations:

Where was God?

Job 8-10 Look, I go forward, but His is not there, and backward, but I cannot perceive Him, when He works on the left hand I cannot behold Him, when He turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him.  But He knows the way I take, when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.

When we are going through tough times we wonder why, we may also wonder where is God in all of this.  No matter what our situation may be, few of us have experienced a true Job trial. He lost all of l his children, his possessions, and his health.  God allowed satan to test Job, not because Job was weak or evil, but because He knew Job was a man who was strong, and trustworthy.

When we are going through trials, we may feel that God has abandoned us and unfairly allowed satan to attack us.  To often we give in to self-pity and the ‘why me’ questions.  I personally said that many times and trust me, God never answered that question. Why am I the one getting divorced, why am I the one with a bad report, why are my kids acting up?  Why not you?  You are living proof of God’s mercy and grace. Living proof that He loves you and trusts you to remain faithful in spite of all the things going on in your life.

Faith isn’t proven until it’s put to the test.  We all have laboratory faith, faith that works in theory, but when the chips are down, and the times get hard, when that faith is put to the test that is when we know that no matter what the devil is trying to do in our life, God has a plan and His plan is working even if I don’t see it, feel it, or even believe it.

One of the things that I said during a trying time was, “Lord, you could end this tomorrow, you could wave your hand and my body would be healed immediately.”  He didn’t wave His hand, I had to go through the process.  Almost every week for months I would get bad news, each test was worse than the one before. Even when it felt like I was gaining strength and things were looking up, there was another setback, and it seemed like I was going over and over the same old fears, and doubts.  Where was God in all of this?

He gives us tools to go through each wilderness experience, we just fail to use them. I say tools, not weapons because these tools not only help us to overcome the enemy, but along with adversity, they help build our faith.   One tool is His Name—Jesus is powerful, at the Name of Jesus every knee will bow, that means, finances, relationships, sickness, and pain will bow at that great Name.

Another tool is His Word—The Word is more powerful than a two-edged sword, it cuts through the lies and reveals the truth. Knowing the word and speaking the Name is a two-edged sword.  Speak positive things, never get into agreement with what the devil or doctor say.  Every time I would hear a bad report, I would speak under my breath— “I rebuke that in Jesus’ Name.”

The third tool, is the Blood of Jesus.  Pleading the Blood over our bodies, our children, our home and all of our possessions places a powerful hedge of protection around us.  Jesus’ Blood is precious, it is holy, it its powerful.  His Blood is so valuable that it redeemed all of mankind.  It is the ransom that was paid for those of us who were taken captive by the evil one.  This Blood set us free from our sin, and keeps us safe from all the wiles of the enemy.

Where was God in Job’s trial?  He was there all the time orchestrating things, even keeping Job in the middle of all the pain and suffering. He is right there in the middle of our time of trouble also.  Job’s trial came to an end, God restored double to Job and blessed him with long life.  Job died, old and full of days.  It sounds to me like he passed his test, he kept his faith, and never gave up believing in God.  We will pass our test too, and come forth as pure gold—Keep Believing!

1 Peter 1:6-8  In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ whom having not seen you love……….
