As some of you know, Destiny Image has been discussing some of the fundamentals of Christian publishing. As we've done so, we've come to realize that while our vision to Publish the Prophets hasn't changed, culture and technology has changed quite a bit in the 25 years we've been doing this.

In our desire to better support the vision the Lord has given us, we've reshaped the focus of our communiqué to include prophetic messages, articles, short stories, and updates from our authors and friends of Destiny Image.

Over the next several weeks, you'll be seeing our newsletter change in appearance as well as content. So, with "changes" being the most obvious topic, I'm including a piece by Frank Viola and Leonard Sweet and one by Sid Roth. Both reflect the spiritual climate of the moment. Change is necessary and it is here. We have been called to it. As in the case of the Russian Jews Sid Roth mentions, sometimes it requires us to turn from what we've been taught. In "A Jesus Manifesto for the 21st Century," we see that, similarly, what we believe and what the Lord calls us to are often very different.

Many Blessings,

Sarah Baker

A Jesus Manifesto for the 21ST Century

by Leonard Sweet & Frank Viola

Christians have made the gospel about so many things … things other than Christ.

Jesus Christ is the gravitational pull that brings everything together and gives them  significance, reality, and meaning. Without him, all things lose their value.  Without him, all things are but detached pieces floating around in space.

It is possible to emphasize a spiritual truth, value, virtue or gift, yet miss Christ - who is the embodiment and incarnation of all spiritual truth, values, virtues, and gifts.

Seek a truth, a value, a virtue, or a spiritual gift, and you have obtained something dead. Seek Christ, embrace Christ, know Christ, and you have touched Him Who is Life. And in him resides all Truth, Values, Virtues and Gifts in living color. Beauty has its meaning in the beauty of Christ, in whom is found all that makes us lovely and loveable.

What is Christianity? It is Christ. Nothing more. Nothing less. Christianity is not an ideology. Christianity is not a philosophy. Christianity is the “good news” that Beauty, Truth and Goodness are found in a person.

Biblical community is founded and found on the connection to that person. Conversion is more than a change in direction; it’s a change in connection. Jesus’  use of the ancient  Hebrew word shubh, or its  Aramaic equivalent, to call for “repentance” implies not viewing God from  a distance, but entering into a relationship where God is command central of the human connection. In that regard, we feel a massive disconnection in the church today. Thus this manifesto.

We believe that the major disease of the church today is JDD: Jesus Deficit Disorder. The person of Jesus is increasingly politically incorrect, and is being replaced by the  language of “justice,” “the kingdom of God,” “values,” and “leadership  principles.” In this hour, the testimony that we feel God has called us to bear centers on the primacy of  the Lord Jesus Christ.

Frank Viola is a Christian author and speaker. His passion is to see the centrality of Jesus Christ and the life of the early Church restored. Frank is a part of the house church movement. He is the author of a series of books on radical church renewal and reform, these titles include From Eternity to Here, Pagan Christianity (co-authored with George Barna) as well as Reimagining Church, Bethany, and The Untold Story of the New Testament Church.

Jewish Revival Has Started!
By Sid Roth

Before our recent outreach, I had not held a Jewish evangelistic event in New York in over a decade. When Russian Jewish revival broke out close to 20 years ago, I started a Russian Jewish congregation in Brooklyn, New York. Every week, Jewish people were coming to the Lord. Although the congregation exists today, the Jewish evangelism stopped.

But April 19, 2009 marked the beginning of a new era in Jewish harvest. By faith, I rented the most popular theater in Brighton Beach, New York, an area that is home to 100,000 Russian Jews in a ten-block radius.

We passed out flyers announcing a lecture on the supernatural. We also advertised on Russian television and radio. We promised that many who attended the lecture would be healed.

I did not know if anyone would show up. We set up 350 seats and had over 400 people (mostly unsaved Russian Jews). After witnessing healing miracles, the majority of the people stood up to make professions of faith. The most dramatic miracle was a woman who was able to walk after at least five months of being wheelchair-bound.

Pastor Alana, who leads the congregation I started in that area years ago, said: “In all of my time of ministry in Brooklyn, I have never seen so many people stand up to receive the ‘prayer of salvation’ led by Sid. After this outreach, I feel even more determined to reach the Russian Jews in Brooklyn.”

It’s Supernatural! board member, Warren Marcus, was on hand to videotape the event. Days later, he wrote: “I am still overwhelmed by what happened…. Tears filled my eyes when the people stood to accept Jesus. I wished my own Russian grandparents could have been alive to experience this. As I traveled back home, I found myself  weeping with joy. It continued the next day. Even now as I share this I am overcome with emotion.”

To my knowledge, this is the largest number of Jewish people who have accepted Jesus in a single meeting in the United States. We have entered the Jewish harvest!

Sid Roth has spent over 35 years as a pioneer in Jewish evangelism, planting Messianic Jewish congregations, and investigating the supernatural.
